Things to do on Liberty Island

Liberty Island is a small landmass, but you'll still be able to find concession stands, gift shops, and restrooms. You can sign up for a guided tour from a park ranger, do your own self-guided audio tour, or head up to the statue's crown for an amazing view of the area (reservation required).

Tours & Ferry Rides to the island

To get to Lady Liberty, you must take a ferry. Departing from Battery Park on the southern end of Manhattan several times a day, the ferries sail every 25 minutes to Liberty Island, then Ellis Island, before returning to Manhattan. You can save time by purchasing advance ferry tickets online before you go.

FAQs

  • How long will a visit to the Statue of Liberty take?

A visit to Lady Liberty takes from several hours to half a day, possibly more, depending on the crowd. However, if you only want to sail by for pictures, take the Staten Island Ferry. It's a free ride to and from Staten Island that runs every 30 minutes. Total travel time back and forth is 1 hour, and the view is amazing.
  • How do I get tickets?

You can purchase advance tickets for the Liberty & Ellis Island ferry online at the Statue Cruises website (http://www.statuecruises.com/) or the ferry terminal at Battery Park in Manhattan.
